Hi everyone,
This is a message for all our members and players. This hockey season is officially over. Hockey Alberta announced earlier that all provincial championships were canceled for this season, and now NAI has canceled league play. This is hard news to hear from our league, but we do understand the decision. Many of the teams within our own association had not finished tiering or even played a game. To be able to condense a season into 6-8 weeks would not be possible.
Our Ag Societies who run the rinks we play in are meeting regarding the remainder of their season. We have informed them that we have decided not to continue the 2020-21 season.
A number of factors have led us to conclude the season once and for all:
To date, the Alberta Government has provided no certain time frame where a return to the ice might be permitted.
When rinks are finally permitted to open, we expect that regulations will likely be even more strict than those which were in place from September-November.
We hope to save our kids from being regularly disappointed with our bi-weekly explanations that, “No, we are still not able to go back.”
We would like everyone to have the opportunity to make new, certain plans for their evenings and weekends.
This is a very difficult decision to make, and it is even harder to write the words that our 2020-21 season is over. Unfortunately, even if there is a return to play or opening of rinks at some point in the next 8 weeks play remain far from normal.
There will be a hockey ops meeting Feb 8th at 7 pm to have more discussion about the plans for next season and the refund/credit process.
Thank you everyone for sticking with us through this year and we all hope for a better hockey season next year. Stay safe and be healthy.
